Loving Ourselves

We make promises to ourselves like
We’ll get some rest.
We’ll slow down.
We’ll stop doing so much.
We’ll stop trying to pour from an empty cup
and pouring from a cup before it’s full.
As if we need permission to
love ourselves
unapologetically.
Freely.
Unfiltered.
Unbothered.
Is it crazy to look in the mirror and say, “I love you”?
Or is it crazier not saying it back?
In a world where hate seems to
suffocate each breath of happiness
and joy, can we truly exhale words of love
without hesitation?
To be kinder with love.
To be gentler with ourselves.
To be firm with our voice.
To listen with our hearts.
That’s what changes the atmosphere.
Loving ourselves is our right and privilege.
Loving ourselves is our responsibility.
Loving ourselves is self-care.
