there’s an old rusty bucket just
beneath the edge of a a shed’s rooftop
no holes and the handle still intact
it’s seen better days
purchased on sale at the town’s only hardware store
shiny and new
the best for the prize winning cow’s milk
over the years the bucket saw many uses
soapy water to wash cars
flipped over for to have a seat by the fireplace
but these days it catches rainwater
and remains full of hope
