Gatekeepers

They never told me that
poets are the gatekeepers to
our imaginations, emotions,
and beliefs.

One poem can take you
to a place you’ve never been
while making you feel like
you’re already there
—believing it’s true.

Or one poem can send you
on a nostalgic journey to
a place you tried to escape
because the pain was too much
—you believed it was forgotten.
