Tailored

We often try to hide our past
because think it represents
a time when we wore shame like
a tailored suit or walked around
in shoes handmade with guilt.

The reality is,
shame was an uncomfortable
because it was never fitted for us.

We tried on someone else’s
version of us and tried to
make it our own.

We attempted to walk around
in cheap knockoffs that only
irritated our feet when we
grew with each misstep.

When we begin to wear
our true garments and
walk in the proper shoes,
we realize that the
only thing hiding was
our potential.
