History in the Making (excerpt)

Black history is American history
in the making every day.

Painted on the canvas
of a land where we
touched the soil
and made it rich.

Continuously cultivating and thriving.

A culture making influences that reach places where the hues aren’t welcomed.

Pain isn’t our only paintbrush.
Our canvases aren’t always
woven in
trauma,
suffering,
and violence.

This excerpt is from a poem featured in my up and coming book, Pain Is Not Our Only Paintbrush.
