Echoes of the Past

Sometimes I can
hear the echoes of
my past mistakes.
Each time the sound
fades further and further
into the distance.
Drowned out
by the laughter
of my present
and future.
Distant memories
don’t always equal
a forgotten past.
What doesn’t kill us
makes us stronger,
but what we give power
controls us.
What has our ear
controls our destiny.
What has our heart
controls our soul.
And
whatever has our
attention steers us
in its direction
