Hands

Reaching up for an helping hand
isn’t the same as
standing waiting for a handout.

One doesn’t require much effort,
while the other requires us to
reach a point of realizing we’ve done
all we can on our own.

Maybe, just maybe
what we’ve set out to accomplish
needed a two seat bicycle,
not a unicycle.

Going around in circles because
we weren’t allowing anyone
to steer us in the right direction
or help us peddle through tough situations.

Society tells us that
whether we’re reaching up
or standing with open palms,
they’re one in the same.
The results prove that
helping hands
compliment who we are
and handouts
expose who we aren’t.

  1. Our society is all about money and profit today sadly. If you were not given the skills, intelligence, or capability to be successful, you are cast aside. It is really sad considering each human being has unlimited potential.
I see this in school all the time. Kids programmed to think they are dumb, not as smart as others, etc. to basically keep the social order in place, it’s very depressing sometimes!
