I want to write a song that tells my story.
Not my past.
Not my present.
But where I’ll be when I get there.

The melody would be mixed with
a little bit of the present with
a whole lot of the past.

I know this doesn’t sound much like
I’m lyrically playing fair.

The lyrics would talk about that time
when I almost gave up before I got here and
how I had to keep believing it would happen—to see it.

I would go through my list of thank yous but
only after first thanking God because
I never forgot whose I am.
Who made it all possible.
And who carried me through.

I want to write a song that says I’m grateful
for my past and present because good or bad
it’s those experiences that shaped my future.
