Picked Too Soon

There’s an old tree in a neighborhood
where the streets didn’t change,
but the houses did.
The roots held together by
the memories of families
thankful for what they had
—even though it wasn’t much.
Some made it out, while
other’s were just displaced
with untapped potential.
The apple didn’t fall,
it was picked too soon.
